Species: Information
Description
A medium sized deciduous tree which is fast growing.
It has a smooth grey to grey-brown bark having occasional thorns. Branches are thorny as well as the bright green leaves. Showy red flowers, which generally bloom from mid to late winter through to spring, most often appear before the leaves.
A dark brown-black pod is produced which splits to slightly reveal red /orange seeds, often called lucky beans.
Natural Habitat
Naturally found in the bushveld, dry woodlands, on north-facing rocky outcrops, coastal dunes and grasslands. Generally growing in warmer areas.
Use in Landscape
A very attractive specimen tree which is often one of the first trees to flower in spring . The tree provides a garden or landscape with colour and texture. It grows well in areas which are very hot and need a fast growing specimen.
